DECEMBER 17, 2013 - HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY AND SEE YOU IN 2014!

In the midst of this busy holiday season, there is an incredible true story unfolding. The oldest known wild bird in the world (continuously banded since December 10, 1956) is a Laysan albatross named Wisdom. She has just returned from several months at sea to Midway Island and has laid a new egg. She is 63 years old.

Can you imagine being a new mother at the tender age of 63? WOW! Some scientists estimate that she could have over 50 children. Pete Leary, the biologist on Midway has posted a video of Wisdom actually laying her egg. The chick will probably hatch in late January. This blog post will give more details, plus links to the video, still photos, and teacher resources. This was taken from a post on LMNET by Darcy an author and blogger from Little Rock, AR.

I want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.

I just want to say "Well done"! I just got the stats from the Union Catalog for the months of September - December. As a group, our stats are 1,259 books borrowed through the new system and 1,314 books loaned. These numbers only represent the requests that were submitted using the new OPALS catalog. They do not include OCLC requests or any requests submitted through Learning Resources Medianet. They also do not include any that may have been filled without using the request ILL feature in the Union Catalog, ie someone emailed you and you filled it without the "official" request record. (Remember, you are responsible for tracking any that are filled this way.)
